FIVE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR SCHOOL MORE KINDERGARTEN FRIENDLY

GearingUpparticipants

Kindergarten teachers estimate that 32% of children have some problems entering kindergarten. An additional 16% of kindergartners have a difficult time entering school.

The Gearing Up for Kindergarten program offers 5 ways to help you and your school create a more welcoming and dynamic environment for enhancing school readiness. The year before a class starts kindergarten you can:

1. Connect and build relationships with incoming children and parents (builds confidence in children and acts as a pathway to parent involvement).

2. Screen/Assess children before school entry to determine areas of need and early interventions.

3. Provide parent education (16 separate readiness topics included!)

4. Increase familiarity with school expectations, routines and environment.

5. Parent/Child activities increase readiness skills and encourage positive parent-child relationships.
